We are pleased to announce an upcoming Training School organised as part of the EU COST Action PACT, taking place in The Hague and Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from 22 to 26 June 2026

This five-day training school brings together the international and interdisciplinary expertise of PACT members to develop concrete, practice-oriented tools for shaping the future of port city territories. The Action's membership spans architecture, urban planning, municipal governance, port management, policy, cultural practice, and research at the intersection of heritage and sustainability — and this training school is designed to mobilise that breadth of knowledge collectively.

Focus

The training school centres on a core question: How can port cities harness their unique characteristics and heritage to develop sustainable urban spaces while accommodating essential port-related flows?

Through a value-based approach, participants will work with practical tools — including stakeholder mapping, value timelines, and spatial analysis — applied directly to their own case studies. Sessions combine structured input with peer exchange and field trips, including a visit to the Port of Rotterdam.

The programme includes:

  • Practical tools for developing long-term, integrated visions for port city territories
  • Peer exchange with an international and interdisciplinary group of academics and professionals
  • Field-based learning in Dutch port city contexts, including a visit to the Port of Rotterdam
  • A structured framework for translating visions into actionable missions and strategies

This workshop is reserved only for members of COST Action PACT. For more information, visit the PACT COST Action website.
