The Western railway line of Ghana: the unexpected consequences of an infrastructure
Few concepts can disturb an engineer’s mind as much as that of the unexpected. The idea that the outcome of an infrastructural project is unpredictable is indeed alien to the ones that are designing, building and planning it. The aim of this interdisciplinary text, that engages anthropology, geography and geology in a co-analysis of an infrastructural project, is to convey the idea that, in the case of Ghana's Western Railway Line, the unexpectable is not only inherent to the project itself but has also created the conditions for the coming to existence of another, unforeseeable and possibly more successful infrastructure: gold mining.
